New Yamaha models more powerful and efficient
Increases in performance and efficiency are two of many improvements Yamaha Motor New Zealand is excited to announce with its 2012 model year F115A and F200C four-stroke outboards.
Even lighter and more fuel-efficient than their class leading predecessors, the new engines incorporate numerous design and engineering changes, along with a raft of new ancillary equipment, new materials and the latest weight saving technology.
The new F115A is a development of Yamaha’s highly successful DOHC in-line four-cylinder engine, first released with electronic fuel injection (EFI) in 1999. This lightweight, 16-valve, 115hp outboard motor has been the benchmark for reliability and durability for more than 10 years.
The F115A’s intake system has all new parts, including the cowling, which together shave 3kg from the engine’s total weight. A new long-track intake system with single throttle valve and a resonator improves throttle response, while redesigned combustion chambers contribute to improved performance and fuel efficiency.
Also new is an upgraded ECM (engine control module) knock-sensor, offering better protection against damaging engine knocking caused by poor fuel, improved combustion efficiency and further boosts to performance and acceleration.
Other tweaks include changes to the intake ports, an upgraded vapour separator and a redesigned, more rigid cowling providing improved air intake efficiency, better draining and superior vibration resistance.
Yamaha’s new F115A is a versatile model. Compact dimensions, lighter weight and Yamaha’s counter-rotating propeller option make it popular for twin-engine installations, while it’s also an extremely good fit for medium-sized, single engine fishing and family-oriented boats.
The new Yamaha F200C replaces Yamaha’s current model, the popular and ultra-reliable F200A.
At the engine’s heart is a 3.3-litre DOHC 200hp V6 with Yamaha’s industry leading variable cam timing (VCT) offering dramatically improved low and mid-range engine torque.
VCT advances and retards the camshaft timing according to engine RPM, engine load and several other factors. VCT improves intake and exhaust efficiency at low and mid-range RPM without compromising maximum horsepower output or performance at the top of the rev range.
Like the F115A, the new F200C has a single throttle valve controlled electronically by the engine’s ECM. Intake air is precisely managed and smoothly directed through surge chambers to the combustion chambers via long intake manifolds. The new manifold design increases airflow and is optimised to work with VCT in boosting low and mid-range torque.
Both Yamaha’s F115A and F200C are rated as ultra-low emission engines, exceeding all European and US emissions guidelines.
In New Zealand Yamaha F115A and F200C outboards will debut on the Yamaha Motor New Zealand stand at the Auckland International Boat Show, Viaduct Harbour, September 15-18.
Yamaha outboards are available from a network of authorised Yamaha outboard dealers around New Zealand. Yamaha four-stroke outboards are supported by a four-year manufacturer’s warranty; two-stroke outboards are backed by a three-year warranty – standard conditions apply.
Yamaha Marine Insurance and Yamaha Motor Finance packages are available at extremely competitive rates.
